IPOH: Ungku Omar Polytechnic (PUO), through its two Technology Centers, the Centre of Technology in Marine Engineering (CTME) and the Center of Technology in Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration (CARe), organized a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Collaboration Hub (TCH) engagement event here on Monday.
Over 60 institutions, government agencies, and industry representatives from the target groups comprising spokes, enablers, and benefactors attended the event.
The Director of PUO, Dr. Shamsuri Abdullah, stated that the aim was to provide exposure to the TCH PUO management regarding the TVET ecosystem, which includes the roles of hubs, spokes, enablers, and benefactors as a robust TVET team.
“The findings from discussions and contributions by focus groups are expected to shape a strong collaboration in the maritime and cooling & refrigeration fields in this country.
“Furthermore, it aims to elevate the TVET brand to a higher level in the future,” he said.
He further explained that the idea of establishing TCH was conceived through the National TVET Council (MTVET), which was established on December 18, 2021.
“On February 11, 2021, the National TVET Council held a meeting and agreed to establish the TVET Collaboration Hub (TCH).
“The implementation of TCH is through synergistic collaboration involving the government, industry, and TVET institutions to realize the TVET empowerment agenda,” he added.
He said that TCH is a model of a strategic collaboration ecosystem between TVET institutions, the government, and the industry through resources, expertise, equipment, and others capable of driving the National TVET Empowerment Agenda.
In addition, PUO, through its two technology centres, CTME and CARe, will conduct several structured engagement programs for the TVET Collaboration Hub at Ungku Omar Polytechnic involving TVET institutions, government agencies, and the industry.
Furthermore, a session for signing the Certificate of Collaboration (CoC) between PUO and external agencies was also held.
“Two CoCs were signed, involving PUO and two external agencies, namely ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter and the Malaysian Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Association (MACRA).
“These CoCs are aimed at establishing collaboration and cooperation for TVET empowerment activities in the field of Air-Conditioning and refrigeration,” he added.
